Public Warehouse Company, a company doing work in
logistics in Kuwait, has sent a representative to recruit 1,000 Fijians
for employment in the Middle East.
Offering salaries ranging from F$3,800 to F$6,500 a
month, the company has already registered some 600 interested individuals
in Suva. They are looking for those with experience in the fields of
truck driving, welding, electrical work, plumbing, as well as those with
military backgrounds. The company is offering its recruits
5-year contracts with 27 days of paid leave annually.
Should the company meet its targeted recruiting goals,
the number of Fijians working in Iraq for private contractors will
outnumber the official UN contingent expected to leave shortly, by over a
10-to-1 ratio.
A sizable number of Fijians are already in Iraq working
for private contractors.
