The integrity of the 2014 elections is very much at stake here. These are pre-determined orchestrated moves to rig the September polls. That is why despite numerous requests, political parties are not getting soft copies of the National Voter Register:”  Mahendra Chaudhry

Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry says it is highly questionable that the Immigration Department should be sending an official team to Australia to handle requests for renewals and new Fiji passports, and dual
citizenships. This is work that should be handled by Fiji missions overseas, as has been the practice to date.

Nemani Vuniwaqa

Immigration Director Nemani Vuniwaqa admitted in a media conference Saturday that this was the first time the Immigration Department was engaging in such an exercise. He said more teams will be sent abroad for this purpose.

But Chaudhry says,”The links with the September polls are very obvious and have serious implications on the integrity of the elections. The Immigration move is even more suspicious coming on the heels of reports that Fiji passports are being offered overseas in exchange for $US750 donation to Fiji First and the qualification to vote in the coming elections,” said Mr Chaudhry. (refer: UFDF statement below)

“Immigration Director Nemani Vuniwaqa must explain to the people why tens of thousands of dollars of public money is to be spent on a task that is the work of our missions overseas.

“This is just preposterous. No other country engages in this kind of exercise. We need answers from Mr Vuniwaqa. The Fiji First Leader must also clarify reports that Fiji passports are on offer for $US750 donations to Fiji First with the recipients being qualified to vote in the September polls,” Mr Chaudhry said.

FLP notes that the visiting Immigration team will also be handling requests for dual citizenship.

“We can now understand why the previous two-year residential qualification for voters was removed from the Electoral (Registration of Voters) Decree 54 of 2012.

Under the decree no residential qualification is now required for registration as a voter. Anyone can vote provided he/she is a Fiji citizen,” Mr Chaudhry said.

FLP had queried this serious omission at the time the decree was promulgated but had received no response from the Elections Office.

“The integrity of the 2014 elections is very much at stake here. These are pre-determined, orchestrated moves to rig the September polls. That is why despite numerous requests, political parties are not getting soft copies of the National Voter Register.

“The people of Fiji need to understand what is happening. With such schemes being deployed, how can the 2014 elections be free, fair and credible?” he asked

The UFDF said today that it has received disturbing but reliable information from multiple sources in the US
and from Hong Kong that on offer is a new $US750 donation for Fiji First in exchange for a Fiji passport
and qualification to vote in the September elections.

The UFDF said today that it has received disturbing but reliable information from multiple sources in the US
and from Hong Kong that on offer is a new $US750 donation for Fiji First in exchange for a Fiji passpor
t and qualification to vote in the September elections.

The UFDF said that Frank Bainimarama was campaigning in California accompanied by Mr Thomson
and following the campaign meetings a $US550 plate dinner was held and some $US10,000 was raised.
And it is during these meetings that the promotion of the $US750 for Fiji Passports is made and an
invitation to vote for Fiji First in the September elections.

The UFDF said the $US 750 offer for Fiji passports and voting rights this year is on offer in Hong Kong
and is likely to be more wide spread then just the US & Hong Kong.

The UFDF is calling on the good, honest law abiding citizens who are appalled at the level of manipulation
and fraud being undertaken by some in authority and have knowledge or proof to email details and information
to: dinasachaitruth@gmail.com . The UFDF says the identify and source of information will remain confidential at all times.

The UFDF said today it would be communicating its latest concerns to the Supervisor of Elections and the
Electoral Commission not anticipating any serious due diligence or effort to establish the truth, but as a
record on file to be used to bring the perpetrators and their supporters to account for their participation
in this ongoing fraud against the people once democracy is restored..
