Court ruling on the Political Parties Decree case
The Political Parties Decree (No 4 of 2013) infringes a number of International Conventions on the civil and political rights of individuals.
The Fiji Labour Party challenged the decree in court and had sought remedies to bring it in line with International Conventions.
The Court dismissed it on the grounds that it had no jurisdiction to deal with the case.
This decision leaves FLP with no recourse in a court of law to litigate grievances that arise as a result of Decree 4 of 2013.
We are now left with no remedy against such infringement of our rights.
