McDonald heads Fiji Sugar Corporation

Agriculture Minister Jonetani Galuinadi, named the new FSC board on 29 June with Ross McDonald as the chairman. Mr. McDonald replaced Hafiz Khan, and a former Cabinet Minister Charles Walker was named as vice chairman.

Other board members include former FSC managing director Rasheed Akhtar Ali, former Cabinet minister Isimeli Bose, South Pacific Fertilizers general manager Bhoo Prasad Gautam, accountant Jay Lal and Damend Gounder.

Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry nominated Mr Ali, Mr Lal and Mr Gautam. Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase nominated the other board members.

Mr Chaudhry said that the new board has a difficult and challenging task ahead of them and would need the support of everyone in the industry to carry out their function and pull FSC out of the mess it is in.

The appointment is for three years, effective from 1 July 2004.
