TV refuses to run Labour commercial

Labour is questioning Fiji TV’s decision not to run the Party’s campaign commercial because it highlights the mismanagement and corruption rampant under the SDL.

Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said the decision was clearly to gag the Opposition’s criticism of the government.

“Fiji TV’s decision is clearly a pay-back for the monopoly status granted to Fiji TV and the tax free concessions it was given last year.” Mr. Chaudhry charged.

Chaudhry claims the decision also reflects the fact that Fijian Holdings has shares in Fiji TV through Yasana Holdings and has a say in decision making.

“This is clearly an adverse reflection on Fiji TV’s independence and impartiality,” he said.

The script of the Labour commercial runs as follows:

               “ Under SDL
Life is getting harder and harder for ordinary people
       Living standards have fallen
       Poverty and unemployment have multiplied
Mismanagement and corruption are at record levels

      A change to Labour
      Will change your future

Labour will end mismanagement and corruption
     And put families first

     Change your future
     Vote Labour ”

“What is wrong with this ad?” Chaudhry asks.
