Political Party Leaders Meeting

The Fiji Labour Party’s Management Board
met yesterday to consider an invitation from the Interim Prime Minister
Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to a meeting of political party leaders to be
convened next Monday.
The Board has authorized Party President
Jokapeci Koroi and Leader Mahendra Chaudhry to attend the meeting.
The Board noted that in his invitation
letter the interim Prime Minister has stated the interim government’s
commitment to conduct a “general election as soon as practically possible”.
The FLP welcomes this commitment by the
interim Prime Minister and wishes to see tangible progress being made
towards arriving at a definite date for general elections.
The Party believes that while the
commitment to hold elections by March 2009 may not be feasible, the interim
administration needs to lay down a definite time frame for elections in
order to dispel the prolonged climate of political uncertainty which is
having a detrimental effect on Fiji’s economy and its regional and
international relations. |
