FLP welcomes CMAG decision

Fiji Labour Party welcomes CMAG’s decision not to fully suspend Fiji from the Commonwealth and to remain engaged with the interim government in seeking long term solutions to problems that beset Fiji.

“It is a prudent decision which shows that the Commonwealth understands Fiji faces fundamental problems such as an unsatisfactory electoral system that needs to be reformed in order to ensure sustainable democracy,” Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said.

“We note the emphasis the Commonwealth has placed on the need for the President’s Political Dialogue Forum to be “inclusive, time-bound and without prejudice as to its outcome,” Mr Chaudhry said.

The FLP now calls on the interim government to move with all haste to convening the PPDF so that issues that stand in the way of general elections can be resolved as soon as practicable.
