Fund raising for poor children in
Taveuni

The Taveuni Branch of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha (a Hindu
religious organisation) has embarked on a project to raise funds to assist
poor parents pay for the education of their children.
The project was announced by the Branch
President Mr Krishna Prasad at the inauguration of the first ever Ramayan
Sammelan held at the Delaivuna Community Centre on Sunday 6 June.
The function attended by over 300 men,
women and children, was inaugurated by Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry.
In his address to the gathering Mr
Chaudhry spoke on the spiritual and moral virtues and ethics espoused in the
Holy Ramayana and urged them to lean on those values for a successful
and rewarding life.
He congratulated the young team of Branch
officials for their fine effort in raising spiritual consciousness among the
Taveuni community.
Mr Prasad thanked the sponsors of the
Ramayan Sammelan who had donated generously to the organising of the event.
Some 16 different groups (Mandalis) from all over Taveuni rendered recitals
of the Holy Ramayana. A number of prominent local citizens
addressed the gathering. |
