Malawai families without water for a week

The Dreketi Pumping Station was shut down for eight days leaving 78 families in the Malawai settlement in Vanua Levu without any water.

The pumping station ran out of money to buy fuel, the residents were told, and was shut from 23- 31st October.

A spokesperson for the affected families said that they were connected to the government metered water supply. The families faced great difficulties for more than a week without water for drinking, cooking or bathing during the week of the Diwali festival.
