High TCTS at Penang Mill

The Penang mill closed last week after making 16,345 tonnes of sugar and 8746 tonnes of molasses from 208,307 tonnes of cane.

Some 3000 tonnes of cane were left unharvested. TCTS stood at 13:1 – apparently no improvement compared to last year.

The high TCTS ratio means a loss of some 4500 tonnes of sugar because of poor extraction. In money terms it amounts to a loss of $4.5m of which $3.2m will be borne by the farmers.
