The chief executive for Land Transport Authority (LTA), Isoa Tamani said, bus operators who did not produce road permits for endorsement of new fares could not charge the passengers extra fare.

Mr Tamani confirmed that only Central Transport, Citiline Bus Service, Dawasamu Transport, Latchans Express, Nasese Bus, Moti Chandra, Shore Buses, Island Buses, Tacirua Transport, Raiwaqa Buses, Vatukoula Express and Tebara Transport are eligible to charge the new fares.

It has been seen that other bus companies are also charging extra fare. It is deplorable that the bus companies are not abiding by the rules.

Despite an appeal by the Fiji Labour Party to the Transport Tribunal, the 5% increase in fare went ahead as scheduled on 1st June 2003.

FLP calls on the LTA to hasten its work and avoid unwarranted problems to the general public.
