PM uses Hindu temples to campaign

The Prime Minister must stop using religious events and Hindu temples to campaign. It is a despicable act, showing utter disrespect for Hindu religious rites, to manipulate such events for cheap political mileage:FLP

PM Bainimarama stands in a temple to make a political speech but denounces other ‘political parties’ for using religion and ethnicity to influence and divide our people.  (FT frontpage today)

He was speaking at the annual pooja ceremony at the Mahadevi Temple in Vuci South, Nausori on Saturday.

Can’t he see that he is doing exactly that himself?  In fact, the PM and several of his Ministers have consistently since 2014 used  Hindu religious occasions  for political purposes.

Even Khaiyum attends Hindu religious functions to further his political agenda. He certainly wouldn’t be there to pray to a Hindu god, or would he?

We are told that they use their contacts to put pressure on Hindu
temple committees to invite them to their functions.

It shows just how desperate the FF government is getting.

This same Bainimarama was quick to castigate and ban conferences, meetings etc of the Methodist Church of Fiji in 2009 in the wake of the Public Emergency Regulations (PER) because he said Church Ministers were using the pulpit for anti-government propaganda. The ban on the Methodist Church was not lifted until 2014.

The FF was instrumental in creating a bitter split within the TISI Sangam  organisation two years ago, when the Minister for Local Government Praveen Kumar (aka Bala) tried to take over the presidency of the organisation. The power struggle initiated by Bala and his supporters ended up in court.

Mr Bainimarama must have a short memory if he has forgotten how they have manipulated and interfered with religious organisations for political mileage.

He didn’t like it when he thought the Methodists were using their church services and meetings for political purposes.

How can he now shamelessly exploit Hindu temples and functions in a similar manner?
