Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase has issued a formal invitation to Fiji Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry to a first round of talks on multi-party cabinet.

“I am writing to you to invite you to a meeting between us in my office at 9am on Wednesday 23rd July, “the PM ‘ s invitation said.

” At the meeting I shall give you the invitation to your party that is required of me under section 99 of the Constitution. I shall also explain to you my position. I trust that this time will be convenient to you” .

Mr Chaudhry will meet the PM at 9am and talks will proceed towards implementing last Friday’ s Supreme Court ruling.

The Supreme Court has ruled that FLP be included in the cabinet under section 99 of 1997 Constitution. FLP won 28 seats and is entitled to 9 Cabinet posts.

The judgement is very specific and it was said that the decision be implemented immediately, however some delay is sensed in the matter.

Mr Chaudhry has openly refused to accept the post of Opposition Leader.
