The re-appointment of Army Commander, Commodore Voqere Bainimarama has created a lot of tension within the country.

National security is at stake at present with intelligence report suggesting possible destabilisation of the country from within the Military.

The rift between the Government and Military is over the unresolved issue of the contract for Commodore Bainimarama, which expires in April. The commander has made it clear that he wants to stay on until the perpetrators of 2000 political upheaval are brought to justice, but the government is not willing to entertain his request.

Military spokesperson, Warrant Officer 1, Neumi Leweni confirmed that there was no contract between the government and Commodore Bainimarama regarding the duration of his service with the military. He said that there was no question of having any contract expiring or having it renewed.

WO1 Leweni denied any possibility of instability in the country.
