How dare the regime change the Fiji flag which is the symbol of our nationhood and sovereignty?
In his New Year’s address Commodore Bainimarama announced that his next step would be to change Fiji’s flag.
The FLP asks: What is the need to do this? Do the people want the flag changed? Who has given them the mandate to do so?
The Fiji flag was adopted following nationwide consultations and a design competition. It is not only symbolic but evokes deep sentiments for Fijians everywhere.
It carries strong emotional links with independent Fiji’s first and longest serving Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara who is held in high esteem as the Father of the Nation.
Leave our flag alone, say the people of Fiji.
