Great Council of Chiefs chairman, Ratu Epeli Ganilau believes Vice President Ratu Jope Seniloli should step aside after being charged with taking an unlawful oath during the May 19, 2000 coup.

Ratu Epeli felt it was his obligation to advise the president on the procedures to be followed as far as Ratu Jope was concerned.

He said since GCC is responsible for appointing the president and the vice-president, it was in the best interest of the nation as a whole that they be informed.

The government and the Attorney General though are of the view that a person is innocent unless proven guilty.

Ratu Epeli believes that the law should be fair to all the people; he said that if a civil servant is involved in a scam then he or she is suspended till the case is over.

He said the same should apply to people with high ranks, if the person wins his case then he can return to his job.

The GCC has clearly indicated their stand on the issue.
