The Fiji Labour Party caucus met for several hours today, following the official opening of Parliament by His Excellency the President. Discussions focussed on a letter of invitation to FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry, from Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, to join a multi-party Cabinet.

Full consultations took place between the Party Leader and all FLP Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The caucus resolved that the FLP Leader should seek an early appointment with the Hon. Prime Minister in order to get clarification on a number of important matters pertaining to the invitation.

FLP Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry said “This is an historic decision for the Party, as well as the country at large. For this reason, it must be made with due consideration and sensitivity. The FLP caucus is mindful that full consultations should first be held with the Prime Minister, in conformity with the Supreme Court decision.”

Following the meeting between the FLP Leader and the Prime Minister, the Labour Party caucus will reconvene to consider its decision on the multi-party Cabinet.
