The Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) has confirmed that they will uphold the rule of law and let justice prevail itself.

GCC chairman Ratu Epeli Ganilau said he was speaking with the mandate of the council and was firm on his stand on investigations into the coup following a consensus to allow the law to take its course.

Ratu Epeli’s firm leadership suppressed the call by the Tailevu province to show leniency to the rebel chiefs and the perpetrators of the heinous coup of May 2000.

Ratu Ganilau said any law is subservient to the constitution and will find itself in that position. He made these comments when some members aired that GCC should be empowered by some form of legislation.

THE Fiji Labour Party applauds the comments by the GCC chief and supports him that the law should take its course and justice should prevail.
